Child labor, Tik Tok, & Censorship

In this episode we talk about your childhood and the various scams of raising funds for schools. We talk about selling gift wrap, magazines, and chocolates as school fundraiser. This leads into a brief foray into standardized testing. We then talk about Tik Tok and a girl who went viral for cleverly raising awareness on the humanitarian crisis of the Uighurs. We discussed how she was censored and the way in which China exerts cultural power through social media and its economic influence. We discuss the different way in which social media shapes and regulates speech, particularly focusing on how algorithms can be built with the potential for censorship and manipulations.
