Tamir Rice, Star Wars, SciFi vs Fantasy

We start the podcast with a reflection on the Tamir Rice case and the failure of the Grand Jury to indict the officer who shot Tamir Rice. We explore the nature of racism and how the system works. We juxtapose the case of Ethan Couch, the Affluenza Teen, with the case of Tamir Rice to see the difference in the definition of justice. We describe the nature of systemic racism and why we can’t seem to tackle it as a people. This leads us to look at how Science Fiction is a way of critiquing and understanding society. We explore the roots of Sci Fi and Fantasy and how they differ. We talk about Star Wars and where it fits into the genre and question the nature of race, class, and gender in the movies.
