Slavery, Facebook, and Animation

*reup due to audio issues* We start this podcast with a rant about the dumb ways that people have tried to re-write the history of slavery. Sparked by a dumb tweet, we push back. We break down the case of Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg’s testimony before Congress. We examine way data collection shapes society and the metaphors that we use in trying to understand the titan of social media. We examine the ways we still don’t understand the influence of social media on society and where things are going from there. Finally we have a discussion about groundbreaking animation that paved the way. We start with recent news of Avatar the Last Airbender and new stories being developed, explore the way that Avatar and Legend of Korra changed the game and conclude with a discussion of the Simpsons and South Park and their cultural impact.
